As we so often do at this time of year, we are reporting early decision statistics from one of the nation’s most competitive universities : Dartmouth College. The pattern which appears to be the new normal: record-breaking applications, year after year, holds true for Dartmouth, as well. Dartmouth accepted 25% of its early decision applicants, while seeing a 10.7% increase over last year’s early applications. While approximately half of the early applications were deferred for review along with the regular applications, Dartmouth’s admission office cautioned these students that in past years, less than 10% of deferred students were admitted in the spring.
Our guess is that we will continue to see the trend of large waiting lists at the highly competitive colleges this spring. With more and more applications from students applying to san increasing number of colleges and a static number of spaces available, colleges will need to hedge their bets with ample wait lists.
