College Board: 6 Out Of 10 Students Unprepared For College

The College Board announced yesterday that its latest results show the nearly 6 out of 10 who took the SAT are unprepared for college level work.  Students scoring just below 1500 (totaling the three SAT components) are not ready to handle the academic work they will face in college.  As ever, SAT scores trend along income and racial lines, with Asians scoring highest on average, then Whites, then Latinos, followed by Blacks. Only 15% of Blacks and 23% of latinos meet or exceed the SAT benchmark.  SAT results also mirror family income:  the higher the SAT score, the higher the family’s income.  The College Board calls for more advanced work to be taught at the secondary level.Image
